A New Puppy
We bought a puppy. This was a long process. First, we went to the KSPCA (Kenyan Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) to buy one. But we got the impression that we were to either get an older dog, or pay a bribe to get a puppy. So we decided to look elsewhere. A local shopping centre had several ads on a bulletin board 'puppies for sale'. So Cindy called around, but they all wanted $250 - 300 for a puppy. We weren't going to spend this much for a dog, plus there are costs for shots and getting the dog 'fixed'.Along the streets in Nairobi, like in many African cities, there are young men selling various items, like sunglasses, flowers, toys, paintings, and puppies! One road in particular has many puppies for sale. So Cindy, Jessica and Debbie Digennaro stopped on this road to buy one. They were inundated with puppies being thrust through the window of the car. A few ended up on Cindy's lap. And they chose the puppy in the photo with Jessica above. He's been named Sirius B by Jessica and Alia. Sirius B is a star, which is sometimes called the 'dog star'. Alia says that the B stands for Brislen.
