A Busy Summer
In late June I traveled to England to work on my PhD and submit the first chapter to my supervisor. While I was in Birmingham, I was able to visit some British missionary friends from our time in Djibouti. I was in England for a long 3 weeks, and I hope in the future to make such trips much shorter. The highlight of the trip for me was that Jessica and I traveled together from Nairobi to Heathrow Airport in London. I hung out with Jessica at the airport for a few hours until she was ready to get her flight onto the USA. We sat and drank coffee, then roamed all over the rather vast airport. And Jessica ran into some friends who traveling to Israel. What a small world!
I returned to Nairobi in mid-July. Our family then went away for a few days of vacation. I hope to post more pictures of our vacation in a few days.
The Brights now live in Birmingham working at the head office of their mission.

The Mitchells were visiting Birmingham, where Andrew is originally from, raising support before returning to Djibouti. Their children didn't accompany them, so I was unable to visit with them. While I was gone, Erika and Sophia Minor were staying with Cindy in Nairobi. They seemed to have a good time.
Sophia and Alia got their faces painted at the Carnivore Restaurant.
They also visited the giraffe park, where they were able to feed giraffes out of their hands. It seems that Alia was somewhat intimidated by the large animals (and from the pictures, Cindy may have been a bit intimidated also). But Sophia, as I was told, was fearless. In any case, giraffes are now Alia's favorite animals. And by the way, my supervisor said that the chapter was excellent and very interesting. What a relief! as I'd been extremely worried.
