Making Nairobi Home

We are beginning to make Nairobi home. Alia enjoys playing in the yard and at the Mennonite Guest House next door, where there is a basketball/tennis court and large sandbox/playground. She is also very happy with her baby-sitters - who watch her while we go to language school. Many board games were left in the house, so Alia is also becoming a big game player.

Jordan has begun school at Rosslyn Academy. He says that there is too much homework, but other wise he is enjoying it very much. He is glad to be back in Africa. He says that everyone is super-friendly in Kenya. Jordan also had his first soccer match. It was a 3-3 tie. We were unable to go to the match because of its early start and our language school, but we've heard that Jordan was the star of the match.

Cindy and I have begun learning Swahili at the Anglican Church of Kenya school. We like the classes and after a week we can say a few things in Swahili. It has a very logical grammar, but we must remember a lot of new vocabulary.

Driving to school is the most interesting new development. We must now drive on the left side of the road. (Kenya was a British colony.) And Nairobi is a city of nearly 4 million people so the roads are crowded. I takes us 30-45 minutes to go about 7 miles to school. We can return home, during a lower traffic period, in a about 20 minutes.

We hope to include pictures some time in the next week or so. For now we are using internet cafes to check on our email and to post on this blog. Once we get internet at our house we put some pictures from Kenya here.

Blessings,
Mike for the whole family
